Questions
Things people ask us
What's actually in the box each week?
Whatever the garden gives us β typically 6β14 varieties depending on your box size: a leafy green or two, roots, an allium, something at its seasonal peak, and fresh herbs. We publish the exact list every week in the weekly notes, along with menu suggestions for cooking all of it. We won't promise specific vegetables ahead of time, because the weather hasn't promised them to us.
Can I choose what goes in it, or swap things out?
Not yet, and honestly maybe never β we're three people, and hand-packing sixty custom boxes would end us. What we do instead: tell us about allergies or genuine can't-eats and we'll do our best to substitute for you personally. And the recipes page exists precisely for the vegetable you didn't expect.
How does billing work?
Through Stripe, the same payment system used by most of the internet. You're billed every four weeks, covering your next four weekly boxes. Cancel any time in the subscriber portal β no phone call, no guilt trip β and your boxes keep coming to the end of the period you've paid for.
Can I skip a week or pause for holidays?
Yes. Let us know by Sunday 7pm (email or the subscriber portal) and we'll skip your box and credit it to the end of your cycle. Going away longer? Pause your subscription entirely, or gift a box to a neighbour β we'll drop it at their door with a note.
Where do you deliver?
A short run around the border towns β check your postcode on the boxes page. If we don't reach you, you can collect from our farmers market stall on Saturday mornings or the farm gate on Wednesdays. We deliberately keep the run short: fresher veg, fewer food miles, and Craig home in time for lunch.
Are you certified organic?
We grow organically β no synthetic sprays, no artificial fertilisers, compost-fed soil β but we're not certified yet. Certification is a multi-year process and we're partway down that road. Meanwhile our audit process is simpler: come to an open morning and look at anything you like. We have nothing to hide and quite a lot of compost to show off.
What's the packaging situation?
Cardboard boxes (returnable β leave your flattened box out and we'll collect and reuse it), home-compostable produce bags, paper tape. Nothing in a Clay & Clover box needs a bin.
What if something in my box isn't right?
Tell us and we'll make it right with a replacement or credit, no photos of sad spinach required. We picked it, we packed it, we stand behind it.
Is there a waitlist?
Sometimes. The garden feeds about sixty households a week at full stretch. If subscriptions are full when you try to sign up, join the waitlist and you'll get first refusal when a spot opens β usually within a few weeks.
Can I visit the farm?
Yes β we run an open morning every season with a garden walk, tea, and whatever Tina has just pulled out of the kiln. Subscribers get invited first. School and community groups: email us.
