Peak brassica week — the cauliflowers hearted up beautifully, the citrus is carrying the colour for the whole garden, and Craig has opinions about celeriac.

July doesn't miss around here. The garden is down to its winter regulars, but the regulars are at their absolute best — this week's cauliflowers are the ones we've been waiting for all season.
What's happening in the garden
Craig would like everyone to know that celeriac is the most underrated vegetable we grow, and he's right. It looks like something you'd find under a bridge, and it makes the silkiest mash you'll ever eat. Peel it generously, cube it, simmer in milk with a garlic clove, blend. That's it. Steak optional, but Craig says not really optional.
The coriander is thriving in the cold, which surprises people every year — it bolts to seed the moment summer looks at it, but in a border-country July it just sits there being perfect.
This week's menu
- Sunday — Whole roasted cauliflower, the long way, for people you like.
- Tuesday — Silverbeet & ricotta pie. Freezes well if it somehow survives dinner.
- Thursday — Celeriac mash (see above), swede roasted alongside, greens wilted with the onions.
- Saturday — oranges eaten over the sink. Some weeks the best recipe is no recipe.
